Cape Town - After seeing his side knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Mamelodi Sundowns, Chicken Inn head coach Joey Antipas backed them to do well in the competition.

The Gamecocks arrived in Pretoria full of confidence with a 1-0 advantage courtesy of a win in the first leg in Zimbabwe, but fell to a 2-0 defeat over the weekend to go crashing out of the tournament.

Antipas was impressed by the Brazilians comeback and believes they have the financial and personnel resources to make it to the latter rounds of the competition, but warned them about away matches and the physicality some sides bring to the competition.

"Sundowns have got all the resources. In Africa with resources you can do well," Antipas told KickOff. "But they must be warned going to Congo-Brazzaville, that team is very physical. They are a big problem at home and a force to be reckoned with.

"I believe Sundowns can get up to the mini-league. From there you may never know what can happen."

Antipas expressed concern prior to the match about the fact it was to be played under floodlights, but ended up being happy with their preparation and refused to blame the conditions for the result.

"The two sessions we had under lights helped us a lot. We are not used to playing under lights but you can't blame the light because the boys put up a great performance," he explained.

"The first goal, we didn't pick from the far post and the second goal as you all know... I don't want to talk about the referee as everybody knows what happened.

"I can wish Sundowns all the best in their quest for the Champions League," he concluded magnanimously.
