Lindokuhle Mtshali netted the match-winning goal as Golden Arrows recorded a 1-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

The encounter started at a high tempo with both teams playing hard and fast in the opening spell in a bid to snatch an early goal.

The Chilli Boys went closest to grabbing an early lead but were denied by Sifiso Mlungwana in the Arrows goal on 13 minutes while a later effort rifled into the side netting, letting the hosts off the hook.

Chippa midfielder Mokhele Maloisane tried his luck from range in the 24th minute but his speculative effort flew wide of the mark as Chippa continued to apply the pressure.

Arrows managed to survive the sustained period of pressure unscathed, although they were struggling to forge any noteworthy goal-scoring chances.

Knox Mutizwa had a great chance to fire Abafana Bes'thende in front from a free kick in the 34th minute but couldn't keep his shot down as it sailed harmlessly over the bar.

And, as the first half drew to a close, Chippa again saw a shot fly into the side netting while at the opposite end of the pitch, Mutizwa chipped the ball over the bar at the near post.

Arrows again made a slow start after the half-time break but had a glorious opportunity to snatch the lead in the 58th minute when Nduduzo Sibiya found Mutizwa in the danger area with a neat pass, only for the striker to chip the ball over the goal once again.

But they finally got the breakthrough they were looking for on 73 minutes when Mtshali fired home from the centre of the area.

Chippa redoubled their efforts after falling behind but a lack of cutting edge in front of goal let them down as Arrows held on to claim all three points on offer.
