  • Bafana Bafana legend Helman Mhkalele reckons Swallows will be a tough opponent for Mamelodi Sundowns.
  • Masandawana and the Dube Birds are leading the chasing pack with only goal difference separating the two teams.
  • The two sides faceoff against each other in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.

Bafana Bafana legend Helman Mhkalele has praised Swallows FC and their coach Brandon Truter as the high flying Dube Birds currently occupy second position in the DStv Premiership.

Swallows are set to face log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday with the league pole position up for grabs as only goal difference separate the two sides.

"I've been keeping a close eye on the PSL," Mhkalele, fondly known as 'Midnight Express' during his playing days, told Sport24 exclusively on Friday.

"Tomorrow's game is going to be a very interesting game. There is a new team in the likes of Swallows in the league, even though they have been here for many years ago.

"They're one of the founders of the league in terms of the club and also, we have the current champions (that they will play against).

"So, that will be very interesting to see and more especially you look at how the players of Swallows are performing."

Mkhalele, who is the current national under-20 South Africa head coach, sees the detailed work Truter has been instilling within the Swallows ranks.

Truter was recently crowned the Premiership Coach of the Month for December and January along with star forward Ruzaigh Gamildien as the league's Player of the Month.

"I also say that with good coaching that Brandon (Truter) is bringing on board. It will boil down to the point, that we’ve been highlighting, that the majority of Swallows players, you can see the determination, you can see the experience that they have gained over the years," Mkhalele said.

"They have huge numbers of experienced players. But it is supported by the attitude and how they apply themselves, so the game tomorrow is not going to be an easy game especially for Mamelodi Sundowns.

"Looking only at the attitude of those (Swallows) players, the good technical plan that coach Brandon (Truter) and his technical team are putting in place it becomes easier for them to execute it because of the attitude of the players."

Kick-off is at 15:00.
