Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks with a muscle tear and will miss Al Ahly's Super Cup clash against Tala'ea El Gaish on 21 September.
The Egyptian giants Ahly signed the 27-year-old Tau from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion for a reported R30 million recently.
The South African international forward was in action during the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana, which Bafana Bafana won 1-0, but was substituted during the game.
According to the Al Ahly media channel, the player has been suffering from a tear to the connective muscle since 3 September and received a dose of analgesic treatment to participate during the FIFA international matches.
He is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks but will be put on a rehabilitation programme to recover in time for the start of the Egyptian Premier League campaign on 25 October.
Meanwhile, it could also signal a loss for Bafana boss Hugo Broos whether his star forward will be match fit for their home and away World Cup qualifiers next month.
Bafana travels to Ethiopia for an encounter on Wednesday, 6 October, before returning to Johannesburg for the return leg on Sunday, 10 October.
