Bloemfontein Celtic secured a 2-0 victory over Maniema Union in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie at Joseph Kabila Kabange Stadium on Sunday.
Phunya Sele Sele were out of the starting blocks in a flash as they took the lead in the fifth minute thanks to Harris Tchilimbou's opening strike.
The Free State outfit appeared to damage the Congolese opposition's confidence as they doubled the early lead only four minutes later as Menzi Ndwandwe found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
After falling two goals behind, Union were unable to get themselves back into the game and in the end succumbed to a painful defeat at home as Celtic held on for the win.
The victory puts Celtic in a strong position to advance as they take two away goals into their home leg at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium next Saturday (5 December).
