Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has claimed that the Soweto giants had the better of their Absa Premiership opener against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amakhosi took an early lead against the Chloorkop side through an eighth-minute strike from Ramahlwe Mphahlele.
However, Cardoso gave away the penalty from which Ricardo Nascimento equalised on the 24th minutes, fouling Jeremy Brockie.
The match ended 1-1 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
“We performed well,” Cardoso told Amakhosi's official website.
“It was a good start to the season, achieving a point away against the reigning league champions.
“We dominated the game, playing with confidence.”
Chiefs will play their first home game of the season on Tuesday night against Wits, and Cardoso is hoping that the new brand of football which they are playing under Giovanni Solinas will pay off.
"It's our first match at home and we want to do well," Cardoso said.
"We are playing more attacking football and let's hope that our positive approach will be awarded come Tuesday."
The 29-year-old was instrumental for Chiefs last season as their solid defence secured them a CAF Confederation Cup spot despite their troubles upfront.
He will be hoping that this season yields plenty for the Glamour Boys at both ends of the pitch.
Kick-off is at 19:30.
