Cape Town - With only few months left on his contract, Kaizer Chiefs face the distinct possibility of losing goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse.

Pieterse's contract is set to expire at the end of June having been at the Naturena club since 2013.

The 24-year-old has been entrusted in goal by coach Steve Komphela following a series of injuries to first-choice 'keeper Itumeleng Khune over the past few months.

When contacted by Sport24 as to whether Pieterse would receive a new deal, the club refused to comment, stating that all contract announcements will be made at the end of the current season in May.

However, Sport24 reported back in January that the Pieterse has not inked a new deal and that he is in no rush to put pen to paper.

Pieterse began his career in Bidvest Wits' youth structures before making the move to the Nike Football Academy.

In 2012 he spent a season with Irish side Shamrock Rovers before signing for Chiefs.

Reports suggest that Pieterse could return to Wits as Moeneeb Josephs' replacement.

Josephs, a former Ajax Cape Town 'keeper, finds himself coming to the end of his career (he'll turn 36 next month) and coach Gavin Hunt will be looking for a long-term successor between the sticks for the Students.

SuperSport United are also said to be looking at the shot stopper with in mind of creating competition for Ronwen Williams.

Meanwhile, Chiefs welcome Ajax on Saturday to the FNB Stadium in an Absa Premiership clash.

Kick-off is at 20:15.

By their lofty standards, Chiefs have endured a miserable season in Komphela's first season in charge. They currently find themselves in fourth spot in the standings, a massive 15 points behind log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with six matches remaining.
