Cape Town - Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is hopeful of turning his side's season around when they face Kaizer Chiefs at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday evening.

The Team of Choice have started 2018/19 in poor form having lost three matches in a row, and concern is seemingly growing they won't be able to build on the success of the previous campaign.

In 2017/18 United finish fourth and were losing finalists in the Nedbank Cup. However, defeats to Golden Arrows, Free State Stars and Cape Town City means confidence levels are low in Pietermaritzburg.

As such, Davids welcomes the challenge of playing the Glamour Boys as motivation levels will be extremely high.

He told KickOff website: "I think it is the best thing now that we are playing Kaizer Chiefs, I don't need to motivate them.

"You know I want them to brave. I want them to really walk with their chests out because they are good team and they know it...they are a fantastic team.

"They just have to believe it. We have to tweak a few things and I definitely feel we will be ready for them.

"We are going to use this month after Kaizer Chiefs, because we will only play on September 15 (at home against Bidvest Wits), to really get the whole squad ready.

"To get the whole squad fit and to really understand the whole concepts with the new players, and then we'll be a force."

Kick-off is at 20:00.
