AmaZulu's Benni McCarthy has been named the Premier Soccer League's (PSL) coach of the month for March/April.

The league confirmed the news on Wednesday.

The Durban-based club has been in superb form this league season, pushing favourites Mamelodi Sundowns all the way in the title race.

McCarthy, Bafana Bafana's all-time leading goal scorer, was heavily linked to the national team's head coaching position before Belgian Hugo Broos was unveiled as the new chief tactician of the men's national side.

AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa, meanwhile, was named player of the month while Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic was awarded the goal of the month.

"Please join us in congratulating our coach on his phenomenal achievement! Thanks for leading Usuthu with passion," AmaZulu wrote on their Twitter account.
