Hlanti happy with progress at Wits

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits defender Sifiso Hlanti admits he's thankful towards Gavin Hunt for saving his career after dropping down to the reserves at National First Division outfit AmaZulu.

Hlanti joined the Students on loan in January after Wits' first-choice left-back, Onismor Bhasera, suffered an injury, with Hunt opting to take a gamble on the player after he was banished to Usuthu's reserve side.

Since scoring on his debut, the full-back has become a regular in the starting eleven, and credits his surprise call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad, due to face Cameroon in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers later this month, to Hunt.

"The coach told me about the call-up and he's very happy with my performance, it is starting to show why he signed me," the 25-year-old told Kickoff.

"I'm hoping to repay his faith and not look at other people. But being called up means things are starting to unfold in the way I want them to be and it's great. It shows progress in life."

The former Mpumlanga Black Aces defender admits everything happened so unexpectedly, but he's now determined to build on the progress he's made in such a short space of time.

"I'm getting game-time now and my aim is to continue to work hard," he added.

"Obviously at Bafana Bafana there is competition and you play this game to compete. To me this is an opportunity to grab with both hands because this call-up … it was not something I was expecting."
