SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo was relieved after his team ended their poor run against Cape Town City with a 2-1 win on Saturday.

Matsatsantsa came into the DStv Premiership clash having failed to beat City in their last eight meetings across all competitions.

However, that was set right at Lucas Moripe Stadium as Ghampani Lungu and Thamsanqa Gabuza scored to secure three points for the Pretoria outfit.

"We played well and deserved the three points. Good work ethic from the boys. I'm happy because we've beaten City for the first time. They have given us problems over the years," said Tembo.

"We have more days to try to recover and also train to prepare for Chiefs. Games are coming in thick and fast.

"We wanted to win this game because we were playing at home and also to reduce the gap on Sundowns."
