Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a massive blow as star striker Samir Nurkovic will be sidelined for two months due to injury.
What makes matters worse for head coach Stuart Baxter is that the Serbian-born player will only return to training in 2022.
"Samir had surgery last week. They found a little tear in the cartilage of the right knee. The surgeon says he could be out between six to eight weeks," Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner said in a statement.
"They smoothed out the cartilage. Overall, the operation was a success, and he will be reassessed by the surgeon in a week's time.
"We will have a clearer idea as to what is going on and plan the recovery process. We believe the timeline provided is one we can work with for now."
Meanwhile, Nurkovic is optimistic that he can return to training soon.
"All is well. It has been just a week since surgery," he said.
"I am still moving around with crutches; it's still painful, but I am getting better, and hopefully soon, we can start the rehab."
Amakhosi are back in action after the FIFA international break with a home DStv Premiership fixture against Chippa United on Saturday, 16 October.
