Cape Town - Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of Ugandan international winger Allan Kateregga from Kenyan side AFC Leopards.

Although the 23-year-old was on the books of Leopards, he spent last season on loan at Ugandan giants KCCA FC.

The Cape Town club are hoping that Kateregga could be a potential replacement for star winger Aubrey Ngoma, who was sold to Mamelodi Sundowns in the January transfer window.

They also believe his experience of playing in Africa will come in useful for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Club boss John Comitis shed some light on the thought process behind the new arrival.

"I sat with [head coach Benni McCarthy] and we discussed the need for a left-footed playmaker and winger that could add something unique going forward," he said,

"There were a few options for us in the market, but once Benni saw Kateregga play he basically just simply said 'this is the one'."

City, second on the league table, also signed Kenyan marksman Masoud Juma in the current transfer window, as well as Kwanda Mngonyama and Bradley Ralani.
