Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kermit Erasmus has set himself a target of 30 goals this season.
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns striker Collins Mbesuma still holds the record of most goals scored (25) in a Premiership season.
Erasmus scored 14 goals in 27 games for Cape Town City last term - in a season interrupted by injuries.
The 30-year-old is firing on all cylinders this time around though and is eager to prove his doubters wrong.
Speaking to KickOff, the Bafana attacker explained: "I just need to stay injury-free and keep on building from where I left off [last season]. Football is a beautiful sport and I just enjoy being on the field. So yes, I'm challenging myself to break the record this season.
"It could be [seen as arrogance] but then it is debatable. The people who think of it as arrogance are not on the same wavelength as I am mentally.
"I am on a different level in my mental capacity, where I just feel anything that I set my mind on is inevitable for me to achieve.
"Yes, it might come across as arrogance but then I know why I say these things. I know the work that I put in. I don’t just say it and then do nothing about it. I put in the work."
Erasmus has one goal and one assist from three Premiership matches this season.
