Johannesburg - Itumeleng Khune was frank in his assessment of Kaizer Chiefs' bad start to the season after they failed to win either of their opening two fixtures of the campaign.

They opened the league season with a 2-1 loss to Bidvest Wits in the Premiership before Cape Town City knocked them out of the MTN8 quarter-finals 1-0.

The Amakhosi captain has put the blame solely on the players, arguing that the technical team led by coach Steve Komphela have done their part.

"I wouldn't say that the situation is troubling but it's a concern for everyone at the club," Khune told reporters.

"It's a concern for the players, the coach, management and the fans. We know that we need to start delivering on the field. We need to start winning matches. Keep clean sheets at the back and everything will be back to normal.

"The problems have been with us as players. We aren't pushing hard enough. The coach does his job.

"At training we look good, we score goals. But when we get to the match, the goals are lacking. As a team we are failing ourselves. I won't point fingers at certain departments. That would break the team.

"For us, we just have to go back to the drawing board and see where we are lacking. Work on it, improve on it and show it in our matches."

They will need to show marked improvement on Wednesday when they host Platinum Stars at FNB Stadium after Dikwena completed a league double over them last term.

"There have been many seasons where we have been under pressure," Khune added. "We got ourselves out of it by winning matches. That's what we need to do right now.

"We know the importance of playing for this club. It's all about results. We have to go out there and get results so that we can win back the fans.

"We are a team that's known for winning silverware. In the past four seasons we won four trophies. But there were seasons where we didn't win anything. We know how to bounce back from that. It has to show this season.

"We have to reveal our true characters where we are willing to die for this badge and the fans."
