The son of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy was named in the matchday squad for their DStv Premiership encounter against Sekhukhune United on Sunday.
Amakhosi returned to action for the first time after not honouring two back-to-back fixtures due to a mass Covid-19 outbreak.
No less than 36 individuals tested positive for the virus, as the club requested that their December matches be postponed.
However, Chiefs returned training ahead of their Sunday fixture and McCarthy was announced in the squad on Sunday hours before kick-off.
At 17, the young defender did not get a taste of minutes during Chiefs' 2-0 victory but expressed his gratitude for making the squad.
Aden McCarthy wrote on Twitter: "From being a Kaizer Chiefs ball-boy for four seasons when I was a small boy to me being in the matchday squad for a league game. My dreams are slowly but surely turning into reality, and I am very grateful and thankful to the man above."
Aden's father donned the Amakhosi shirt for five years between 2003 until 2008, winning multiple titles in over 100 club appearances.
