Luck seems to have eluded us - Sarr

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Issa Sarr feels the Soweto giants were unlucky to drop points in their last two fixtures, and admits they must improve if they are to keep their title hopes alive.

Bucs were held to a 2-2 draw by Highlands Park in an Absa Premiership encounter at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

The Soweto giants' result against Highlands was a second consecutive stalemate following last Wednesday's 1-1 draw against Baroka FC.

"The two matches we have drawn are actually the ones we should have won, but luck seemed to have eluded us, one should say, because we have found ourselves conceding late goals in both matches," Sarr told Vodacom Soccer.

"But we need to rectify our defensive errors and work on improving our level of focus in the crucial moments of the game, because that's when we have been caught off guard.

"We are left with four matches to finish the first round, and we need to make sure that we come out with vital points from these matches in order to keep our league title hopes alive. The second round will be even tougher where every team will be fighting for vital points.

"In this season we celebrate 80 years of the team's existence, and we have no choice but to win something for our supporters to celebrate the anniversary in style. We are now only left with league and Nedbank Cup to compete for," concluded the 30-year-old Senegal-born defensive midfielder.

Currently fifth in the Premiership standings, Bucs will resume their Absa Premiership campaign with a crucial away clash against Maritzburg United next Tuesday (13 December) at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Apart from the Maritzburg clash, Bucs are left with other crucial matches against Bloemfontein Celtic (home), Platinum Stars (away) and Bidvest Wits (home).
