Mamelodi Sundowns winger Phakamani Mahlambi says he joined AmaZulu on loan this season to ensure he played more games.
The 23-year-old former Bidvest Wits and Al Ahly attacker joined the Brazilians in 2018.
He completed a deadline day move to Usuthu having played just eight matches in the Premiership last season.
He was also yet to feature for Downs this term after five games.
The Bafana man told the Daily Sun: "If I were to stay at Sundowns, it's clear I wasn't going to play, I wasn't going to be selected for the national team. So, I had to find a way of getting game time so that the national team coach can select me again.
"It is my intention to go play football again and get back to the Phakamani people know.
"AmaZulu have quality players, some I played with and some I grew up watching. I hope they will help me reach my full potential."
