Cape Town - Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Phil Masinga believes captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele should be eased back into the starting line-up.

Mphahlele made his return from an ankle injury in the 3-1 win against Mbombela United in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 on Saturday.

However, Masinga has urged coach Pitso Mosimane to retain the central defensive pairing of Thabo Nthethe and Wayne Arendse, and play Mphahlele at right-back.

"They should not change them even though Mphahlele is back. Football is a game of mistakes you can't be one hundred per cent all the time," Masinga told Goal website.

"Our centre-back pairing was caught sleeping in some games like against Bloemfontein Celtic. It's something they will probably work on to become better at it."

The legendary Bafana Bafana striker says that Sundowns still need to recruit a back-up central defensive pairing and expects Pitso Mosimane to make a few signings during the off season.
