Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy feels it is important that the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has a good relationship for the benefit of Bafana Bafana.

The national body and the league have not always agreed on many things over the years but SAFA recently lodged a request to the PSL in order to have several fixtures moved in order to help Bafana Bafana prepare for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya next month.

According to Bafana coach Stuart Baxter, the PSL has have since granted the association's request by bringing forward a number of fixtures scheduled for 16 and 17 March as the national side prepare for the game against Libya on 22 March.

And City coach McCarthy believes the move is a step in the right direction.

"It's important that the federation [SAFA] and the PSL has a sound relationship, because ultimately the national team is dependent on the club’s players," said McCarthy as quoted by KickOff website.

"We want our national team to compete and qualify for major competitions like the AFCON and the World Cup, and that hasn't been the case in the last few years.

"So, if the League can help by making more time for Bafana to have good preparation for important games [such as this against Libya], then so be it. I think it's good."

Bafana need a point against Libya to guarantee qualification to the AFCON that will take place in Egypt in June and July.
