Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic believes it takes continual improvement and persistence to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns as Absa Premiership champions.

Sundowns showed their stamina and class once again in 2018/19 to pip Pirates to the title on the final day, despite multiple commitments in the cup competitions including the CAF Champions League.

The Brazilians advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League where they were narrowly beaten by Wydad Casablanca.

Meanwhile, the Sea Robbers went out in the group stages but, despite fresher legs, weren't able to squeeze past coach Pitso Mosimane's men in the battle for first in the Premiership.

'Micho' told reporters it takes a comprehensive formula both on the field and behind the scenes to unseat the 2016 African champions.

He said: "All 'top-six' gunning for the trophy need to beat them with iron discipline, hard work and organisation, fanatical hard work and usage of science, because there is an invisible match that you people are not seeing, and you need to beat them with a family atmosphere.

"Any team [who wishes to beat Sundowns] need to have this because as you could see this is their example, they are living like a family, and of course in any family, the masterpiece is how you keep your dirty laundry.

"It's not always perfect and it's not easy to live in a group, and I can tell you that, the same as with anything in life, when I came here it was (Samsung) Galaxy 8 and now it's Galaxy 10...everything needs to improve."
