Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says that his side are like a Formula One car this season compared with the Fiat Panda they were last campaign.

Chiefs' new signings have hit the ground running. Striker Samir Nurkovic has impressed in all four of the games he has started, grabbing his maiden goal in the 1-1 draw with Supersport United on Saturday before providing an assist in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Cape Town City.

Midfielder Kearyn Baccus, another recent acquisition, came off the bench to great effect in the win over City, grabbing the winner and providing the catalyst for Amakhosi turning around a one-goal deficit to claim all three points.

Meanwhile, Middendorp has also likened Erick Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama to new players, with both having come back from respective long-term injuries. Mathoho is the side's top-scorer while Manyama has provided the most assists.

“If you want to go into a Formula One race‚ and if unfortunately you have a Fiat Panda you can’t win‚ you can’t compete‚” said Middendorp.

“So it was very important for us to look at which type of players that were available for us to get and which players we had coming back from injury.

“Players like Lebogang Manyama and Eric Mathoho ... I’ve been repeating it over and over again that they are like new players for us.

“Plus of course those that we signed like Kearyn Baccus‚ Lazarus Kambole and Samir Nurkovic.

“Yagan Sasman is a huge addition for us because he is flexible at either left-back or as a left-side central back.

“This is what we have been working on.”
