Samir Nurkovic scored a VAR-checked goal to give Kaizer Chiefs a 1-0 win in Morocco against Wydad AC in the first-leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final.

AS IT HAPPENED | Wydad AC 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs

The Serbian-born latched onto an inch-perfect cross from Njabulo Blom to rattle the back of the net in the first-half to ensure Amakhosi leave the North African country with an away goal.

The linesman flagged the initial goal for offside, but the replay showed that the industrial striker was onside by the finest of margins, and VAR overruled the on-field decision, and the goal was given.

However, despite Nurkovic's goal, Bruce Bvuma's goalkeeping heroics kept Amakhosi in the game as they defended deep and with sheer focus to hold onto their slender lead.

After Nurkovic scored, Wydad applied the pressure and continued to press the Glamour Boys into their half.

On the stroke of half-time, the home side came close as Aymane El Hassouni nearly equalised from a free-kick in a promising position, but Bvuma thwarted the effort with an excellent save.

Bvuma would come to Chiefs' rescue at least twice in the second stanza again.

The 26-year-old denied Ayoub El Kaabi as his shot was curling into the bottom right corner.

And then again, when Aymane El Hassouni sent a dipping strike that nearly caught Bvuma off-guard but in the last second palmed the effort to safety.

Wydad continued to pressure Amakhosi in the latter stages of the encounter, but Chiefs defended resiliently to travel back to South Africa with a victory and an important away goal.

Amakhosi fly back home on Sunday and will begin preparations for the second-leg on Monday.

The Glamour Boys will welcome the Moroccan outfit to FNB Stadium on Saturday, 26 June.

Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.
