Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs striker Gustavo Paez has apologised for snubbing head coach Giovanni Solinas and storming off the pitch after being substituted in a Macufe Cup fixture on Sunday.
Paez was substituted in the 65th minute of Kaizer Chiefs' 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at the Free State Stadium and appeared infuriated by the decision.
The disgruntled Venezuelan attacker was caught by TV cameras appearing to ignore Solinas who attempted to shake the player's hand after leaving the pitch.
"There was no bad intent on my part as I have a great relationship with the coach," Paez said. "It was a case of misunderstanding.
"I admit that it looked bad and for that reason I apologise sincerely to the Chairman, the club, my team-mates, sponsors, supporters and all the stakeholders for this unfortunate incident."
Chiefs confirmed on their club website that they had taken "necessary internal steps to ensure that the matter is put to bed," and were focused on their next fixture.
The Soweto giants next host Black Leopards in the Last 16 of the Telkom Knockout Cup at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 15:30.
