Cape Town - A Bernard Parker goal in the tenth minute was enough to seal Kaizer Chiefs victory over Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup in Soweto on Saturday.

Parker was setup from the byline after a great run by Gustavo Paez who found the veteran striker with a pinpoint pass. He duly obliged, sliding the ball into the net and sending the Chiefs fans in the stadium into ecstasy.

But drama was unfolding outside the stadium where two people died in a stampede as the game went on with officials and players unaware of the tragedy unfolding.

Chiefs remained in control for much of the half with Hendrik Ekstein forcing a save and George Maluleka hitting the post.

In the second half, Bernard Morrison almost found an equaliser for Pirates but his attempt was well saved by Itumeleng Khune.

But it was Chiefs who held on to claim bragging rights in the first Soweto Derby of the season.

Willard Katsande was named man of the match.
