Cape Town - Veteran Ajax Cape Town striker Nathan Paulse has warned Prince Nxumalo to not rest on his laurels following his debut for Bafana Bafana against Cameroon on Tuesday.

Nxumalo has put in stellar performances for the Urban Warriors throughout the season, scoring 11 Premiership goals and is just two strikes behind the leading goalscorer Collins Mbesuma, who has 13 goals for Mpumalanga Black Aces.

His impressive displays earned the 25-year-old a place in Shakes Mashaba's squad for the two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cameroon, making his bow at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Paulse believes Nxumalo deserved the call-up to the national team, and advised his team-mate to keep pushing and never stop working hard to improve himself, as this was just the beginning of great things to come in his career.

"I'm extremely happy for him and proud that a striker from our team was picked for the Bafana squad," Paulse told KickOff.

"It didn't make sense to me why he wasn't played from the start , but that's another story. I hope he builds from this, and sets his sights higher than just being in the Bafana squad, he should work towards, in the next year or two, going overseas.

"I'm here to help and assist and push him as much as I can, as I am here to keep him sharp by doing what I can and playing well, and he helps me and the other forwards too.

"As I've always said, competition breeds success, and I think he is evidence of that. He's being doing extremely well for us, and now he's been rewarded, so he must just keep on going."
