Cape Town - PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza announced that R4m has been received from Senzo Meyiwa’s insurance payout.

According to Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates claimed R2m of the payout following Meyiwa's tragic death in late 2014.

Khoza said at a press conference on Wednesday that the Buccaneers will not deduct any money which was spent on the goalkeeper’s funeral.

PSL players and officials are covered by the league for injuries and untimely death.

Sport24 reported in November last year that Meyiwa’s insurance payout had already been received by the league and that Khoza was taking the necessary precautions into dealing with the matter properly.

“The Senzo Meyiwa insurance payout has been received by the league. We will notify the family, the club and beneficiaries in a proper manner,” said Khoza at the time.

Meyiwa was murdered during a reported robbery at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mother’s house in Vosloorus on October 26, 2014.

The South Africa Football Players Union general secretary, Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe, explained that everything is being done in order for the families to receive the money.

"One of the things we are fighting as a union is the insurance policy of the PSL, which pays half of the dividends to the club," Gaoshubelwe said, and as reported by Sport24.
