Orlando Pirates suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday.

With the defeat, the Buccaneers slip down to fifth in the standings as Lidoda Duvha move off the bottom of the table into 14th with just their second win of the season.

An early chance came Pirates' way as Thembinkosi Lorch sent one into the box, but there was no Pirates shirt close enough to make the cross count.

Wayne Sandilands was then tested by Rodney Ramagalela, but the Bucs keeper was alert. Ramagalela looked lively and tried his luck from distance again soon afterwards, but his effort rolled wide.

After being played in by Lorch, Makaringe wasted a good chance to open the scoring in the 14th minute as he sent his effort over the bar.

In the 22nd minute, the visitors won a corner. Lorch took it and Innocent Maela rose highest, but guided his header wide.

The Sea Robbers survived a nervy moment in the 28th minute, as Maela’s attempted clearance hit the upright. However, soon afterwards the Bucs left-back put the ball into his own net from a Leopards corner.

And Lidoda Duvha were 2-0 in front five minutes before the interval when Roderick Kabwe met Ovidy Karuru's corner to double the lead.

Pirates were dominating possession in the second half but really not creating much at all, while Leopards continued to look dangerous on the break.

Mohammed Anas was played through on goal in the closing stages but Sandilands made the save when the Leopards striker should have made it 3-0.
