Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane admits he was pleased for striker Leonardo Castro after he found the net for the first time this season.

After joining the Brazilians from Bolivian side Universitario de Sucre last term, the Colombian forward impressed with 15 goals across all competitions, while providing the perfect foil for fellow attackers Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly to thrive on.

The attacking trio, known as the 'CBD', forged a reputation as one of Africa's deadliest strike force as they romped towards a record-breaking Premiership title, the CAF Champions League and the Telkom Knock Out trophies.

However, this season, niggling injuries, the departure of Dolly to Ligue 1 side Montpellier and the meteoric rise of Percy Tau in the false nine role to lead Masandawana's front-line; has seen Castro's role diminish under Mosimane.

While he is still rated highly within the 'Downs camp at Chloorkop, Mosimane is expecting to see the 27-year-old return to his prolific best after scoring in the 2-0 win over third tier side Mariveni United in the Nedbank Cup on Monday evening.

"He's been trying very hard to break the ice. I think you saw even in Cape Town (against Cape Town City on Friday) he was trying, so I am happy that he got it now. It's good for him to get that confidence back," Mosimane told the SowetanLIVE website.

"The movements in the box were from the Castro we've always known, so he is coming up well."
