Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic defender Tshepo Rikhotso has apologized for his dangerous tackle on Andrea Fileccia which inflicted a serious knee injury on the striker.

Rikhotso's horrendous challenge caused knee ligament damage to the Free State Stars marksman at Goble Park on Saturday.

Stars grabbed the 1-0 win over Celtic but going forward will be without the Belgian, who is the team's top goal scorer with six goals.

"I am still distressed by the pain caused to Fileccia by my tackle and feel sorry for him as I did not hack him deliberately.

"It was painful to see him on the stretcher because of my unintended actions," Rikhotso told his club's website.

"I wish him a speedy recovery and apologise unreservedly to his team for causing an injury to such prolific striker who has contributed immensely to their progress this season.

"Andrea must remain strong, I will also call him to show my remorse."
