Legendary sports journalist and former City Press sports editor S'busiso Mseleku will be laid to rest on Sunday at the Stellawood Chapel in Durban.

Mseleku, who was also a former Sport24 columnist, died on Monday at the Midvaal Private Hospital in Vereeniging after having tested positive for the coronavirus.

He was 59.

Over the course of his career Mseleku worked for the Sowetan, served as sports editor for Drum Magazine, delivered football insights as an analyst on SABC Sports and other numerous broadcast channels and led the City Press sports department as sports editor.

In compliance with the Covid-19 regulations on gatherings, the number of funeral attendees will be restricted to 50.

The Mseleku family has appealed to members of the public and community of eMagabheni to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations.

Friends, colleagues and members of the public who would like to join in bidding Mseleku farewell can do so through a live stream.

Proceedings will start at 09:00 and end at 11:00.

"The Mseleku family is heartened by the support and outpouring of love it has received since the untimely death of their beloved son, brother, father and grandfather," a statement sent out on Saturday night read.

"They thank all South Africans, the media and sporting fraternity for the prayers and warm words of comfort during this difficult time.

"Mseleku now rests in the hands of his maker. His love, laughter and the knowledge he shared will be forever etched in our hearts and minds."
