Sekhukhune United continued their impressive start to the DStv Premiership season with a 2-0 victory over Amazulu at the Ellis Park stadium on Wednesday.

Willard Katsande and Chibuike Ohizu scored early in the second half to clinch maximum points with the home team completing the win even though they had to play the final 20 minutes with 10 men after Pogiso Mahlangu was sent off.

The three points sees Sekhukhune move up to fourth in the league table as they notched up their fourth victory after eight matches played this campaign.

Amazulu came into the contest on a high having qualified for the next round of the Caf Champions League after a momentous 1-1 draw away to TP Mazembe on Saturday.

And maybe the mental and physical toll to achieve that shock result as well as the taxing journey back to South Africa contributed to a lackluster display by Usuthu.

After a goalless first half, Sekhukhune took the lead just three minutes after the break when Katsande ghosted in and finished at the back-post following a flick-on from a corner.

The hosts should then have doubled their lead just a minute later when a blistering counter-attack saw Tshediso Patjie having a chance from close-range but the winger missed the target.

The second goal did come though, in the 51st minute, after some neat build-up play from the back and this time Patjie on the left-wing beat two players and set up Ohizu who finished past Usuthu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.

The home team were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute after Mahlangu was shown his second yellow card of the game for a rash challenge on the Mothwa.

Amazulu could not take advantage of the extra man though and Sekhukhune held on to claim all three points.
