Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Royal AM at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday afternoon.
The league leaders got off to the best possible start with a goal after just six minutes as Thabiso Kutumela smashed the ball home with an excellent volley after a poor clearance by the visitors.
Neo Maema brought a good save out of Hugo Nyame after the in-form creative midfielder cut inside from the left onto his right and rifled a shot from the edge of the box towards the top right-hand corner which was brilliantly tipped away by the diving Royal AM shot-stopper.
Soon after, the Brazilians were opened up too easily when a ball was lifted back into the box from Kennedy Mweene's clearance
Ndumiso Mabena controlled the ball and laid it off to an unmarked Tebogo Potsane, whose low effort from close-range was saved by the legs of Mweene.
Royal AM had another opportunity a few minutes later when Menzi Masuku played an aerial ball down the right flank for Mabena to run onto.
He unleashed a vicious effort but it was straight at Mweene, who tipped it over the bar.
Downs continued to dominate possession after the break with Royal typically dangerous on the counter.
In the 52nd minute, Peter Shalulile came inches away from doubling the lead when his left footed shot went inches wide.
Shalulile would get on the scoresheet shortly after the hour mark when he completed a simple tap-in from a pinpoint cross from Morena.
Ten minutes later, Shalulile grabbed his second and his 11th goal of the season finishing clinically into the bottom left corner after being assisted by Aubrey Modiba following a blisteringly fast break.
Soon after, the Namibian almost grabbed his third when he hit the bar with another left footed shot after being cleverly played in by Gaston Sirino.
Royal AM then pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go when Victor Letsoalo sidefooted the ball into the roof of the net from Potanse's delivery.
That spurred John Maduka's side on and they were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute.
Letsoalo slotted home for his second of the match and eighth goal of the season, but was a little too late for the visitors as the Brazilians came away with the three points.
