Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas is asking goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune to play a more advanced role in Amakhosi's build-up play.

Much like the system implemented by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Solinas wants to see the Glamour Boys keeping possession with comfort at the back before looking to take up more advanced positions.

Speaking to the media, Solinas explained his thinking behind the role he wants his captain and goalkeeper to play:

"I want my defenders to start the build-up from the back. Our philosophy is to start play with the goalkeeper," said the Italian.

"We need to take the responsibility and play with courage and play brave. I want the goalkeeper, when we have the ball at the back, to play as a central defender.

"In our drill during the training session, we use the goalkeeper as a central defender so that they can play with the feet.

Chiefs are in action on Wednesday night against Bloemfontein Celtic in a league showdown at the FNB Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
