Cape Town - Following an impressive 2016, Mamelodi Sundowns were named Club of the Year at the CAF Awards in Abuja, Nigeria.

In a year which Sundowns claimed the Absa Premiership as well as their first CAF Champions League triumph, the Pretoria side were up against Confederations Cup champions TP Mazembe for the award.

The Brazilians are the first club in 15 years to win the prize from the COSAFA region as Kaizer Chiefs were recognised for their 2001 season.
