SuperSport United advanced to the semi-finals of the MTN8 after a thrilling 3-2 win over new boys Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Thohoyandou stadium on Saturday.
TTM's preparation didn't get off to the best of starts after naming just three substitutes on their bench with teams usually allowed up to nine substitute options.
Things quickly went from bad to worse with TTM finding themselves down by three goals after just 33 minutes thanks to goals by striker Bradley Grobler, Iqraam Rayners, who scored on debut, and Ghampani Lungu.
Mogakolodi Ngele managed to pull a goal back for TTM in the 44th minute with some individual brilliance when he whipped a left-footed shot into the top corner.
Ngele then grabbed his second of the match to narrow the deficit further with a near post header from a corner kick.
The SuperSport United defence struggled to hold on as they came under increasing pressure by the opposing attack as Lerato Lamola was narrowly denied by Ronwen Williams with a golden opportunity to grab a late equaliser in stoppage time.
That's how things ended with the defending champions advancing to the semi-finals.
