Champions Mamelodi Sundowns rounded off their DStv Premiership campaign with a 3-2 victory over Royal AM in a re-arranged fixture played at the Chatsworth stadium.

The teams had to start all over again on Monday after the original fixture on Saturday was postponed in the first half due to bad weather.

Sundowns were then hit by a flu outbreak in the squad and forced to make several changes to their line-up for Monday's game.

The forced changes didn't look to have any effect on the champions as they held on tightly for victory courtesy of goals from Gaston Sirino, Thabiso Kutumela and striker Peter Shalulile, who netted his 23rd league goal of the season.

Speaking to SuperSport TV, Shalulile admitted disappointment in not breaking Collins Mbesuma's long-standing 17-year-old record of 25 goals in a season.

"I have to give glory to God, my teammates, the technical team and everybody who was involved this year," said Shalulile.

"At the end of the day, things do not happen for a reason. This is why things like this happen.

"Maybe next year I'm scoring more goals. But all I can say, I'm grateful, to each and everyone, the supporters, for what they've done this year, it was amazing.

"To be honest I'm not satisfied, and I'm going to keep on fighting. I want 26 goals and that's what champions do."
