Thulani Hlatshwayo has reveled it has always been a dream to play for Orlando Pirates following confirmation of his move on Monday.

The 30-year-old centre-back had been a mainstay of the Bidvest Wits defence for the past five years, after joining from Ajax Cape Town in 2014.

The Bafana Bafana captain was forced to find new employment after the Clever Boys' sale to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.

Pirates were quick to snap up the experienced defender, with Hlatshwayo explaining what it means to him to complete his dream move.

He told the club's official website: "It means a lot to me and my family. I am delighted to have finally joined Orlando Pirates Football Club.

"This is an honour and privilege to be here because I know how long the club has been after my services over the years. Unfortunately, the club was not able to sign me for whatever reasons but thankfully now I am here, and I have both Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates management to thank for that.

"I have said before that one day I would like to join Orlando Pirates. I am happy, that day has finally come.

"Honestly speaking there were other teams that were after my services but out of respect for them I wont mention them but as I’ve said earlier, I’ve always wanted to play for Orlando Pirates and secondly the club has been after me for a long time now."

Hlatshwayo will be aiming to inspire the Buccaneers to league honours, as he did when leading Wits to their first-ever Premiership title in the club's 99-year history, back in 2017.
