Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have announced the departure of goalkeeper Virgil Vries with immediate affect after the player endured a poor spell of form at Naturena.
Vries joined Chiefs in July last year as an understudy to Itumeleng Khune, but was drafted into the first team after a season-ending injury to Amakhosi's undisputed No 1 'keeper.
However, the 30-year-old made a number of clangers while in goal and it forced Chiefs to draft in Daniel Akpeyi from Chippa United.
Akpeyi has also made several blunders and it now appears that former No 3 'keeper Bruce Bvuma is recognised as the first-choice starter.
Nonetheless, Vries' agreement was terminated on April 30 and he is now a free agent in terms of signing for a club next season.
The team's official website quoted the player as saying: "It's been a pleasure and a great experience to don the Kaizer Chiefs jersey.
"I thank everyone for their support during my stay at the club."
Chiefs added: "The club thanked Vries for his contribution and wished him all the best in his future endeavours as he prepares for the upcoming Cosafa and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments with the Namibian national team."
