Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs duo Leonardo Castro and George Maluleka are likely to miss Saturday's Nedbank clash against Stellenbosch set for Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The club announced on Thursday morning that the two players are training under the watchful eye of their medical team.

Maluleka missed last weekend loss to old rivals Orlando Pirates while Castro played, but was reported to be feeling a slight pain in the foot.

"Maluleka is training in the gym under the watchful eye of the medical team," the club website said.

"As a measure of precaution, Leonardo Castro was also training in the gym on Tuesday morning, as he felt a slight pain in his foot."

However, there was positive feedback on youngster Emmanuel Letlotlo with the club announcing that he has stepped up his recovery process after a knee surgery.

"Letlotlo has joined his team-mates in training, albeit still taking it easy after a lengthy recovery period from his knee surgery," the statement from Chiefs read.

Meanwhile, January signing Kabelo Mahlasela, who joined from Bloemfontein Celtic, is making progress in the race to make his Amakhosi debut and is doing physical drills on pitch side as he moves closer to a comeback from the long injury layoff.

The 26-year old winger injured his knee in his first training session with his new club.

"Mahlasela, the midfielder is progressing well doing physical drills pitch side."

The Nedbank Cup gives Chiefs a chance to bounce back after their loss to Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates which hampered their league title hopes.

Amakhosi defeated Golden Arrows 3-0 in the round of 32 played last month and the competition is their only hope for some silverware this season.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
