Cape Town - Cape Town City took a step closer to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages after recording consecutive 1-0 wins over Young Buffaloes in the preliminary round.

Akosah-Bempah was expected to start for the hosts, but he was forced to withdraw from the matchday squad just before kick-off and was replaced by Judas Moseamedi.

City were slow to get out of the blocks, although they eventually gained the upper hand and dominated proceedings.

However, they failed to break down the opposition in the first half as Moseamedi, Suprise Ralani and Shaun Roberts squandered their respective chances to get on the scoresheet.

It took the Blue and Gold Army just 11 minutes second-half minutes to open the scoring, though, when Ralani curled a shot into the back of the net from the right to give them a 2-0 aggregate lead.

The Premiership club saw out the remainder of the match without any incident to advance into the first round of qualifying.
