Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rhulani Mokwena on Thursday said that former head coach Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly side would likely favour avoiding a potential match-up against them in the CAF Champions League knockout stages.

The two sides could potentially face each other in the quarter-finals of the competition after both booked their passage as group winners and runners-up.

Earlier, Mosimane had suggested that teams would look to avoid the defending CAF Champions League champions in the knockout stages.

Speaking ahead of their final Group B clash at home to CR Belouizdad, Mokwena said that it was practical for the two teams to look to avoid each other.

"I think Coach Pitso is right," Mokwena said. "Who wants to play the defending champions except Mamelodi Sundowns?

"We would welcome them because that's the competition.

"Once you get to the last eight and get to the last four, you get to play anybody and you've got to play all the best teams in that space, and I think if Coach Pitso is honest, I don't think he wants to play Mamelodi Sundowns - I don't think so."

Kick-off is at 15:00.
