Croatia beat Brazil 4-2 on penalties on Friday to set up a World Cup semi-final against Argentina or the Netherlands.

With both teams evenly matched during the 90 minutes, the game went into extra time.

Neymar broke the deadlock in the 105th minute giving the Brazilians the lead in the first half of extra time with brilliant solo strike.

However, Croatia fought back and equalised through Bruno Petkovic sending the game to a nervy penalty shootout.

Brazil forward Rodyrgo missed the first penalty and Marquinhos missed the crucial spot-kick, hitting the post while Croatia converted all four penalties knocking one of the tournament favourites out of the World Cup.

The result denied Neymar his first World Cup while Croatia, led by the ever-present Luka Modric advance to their second consecutive semi-final.
