South African tennis' 'Big Three' - Kevin Anderson, Lloyd Harris and Raven Klaasen - were all absentees from ATP tournaments this past week and taking stock, but for altogether different reasons.

The 34-year-old Anderson, who was at one time ranked as high as fifth in the world, but now lingers in 88th position and has surrendered the top world singles ranking position among South Africans to 24-year-old Lloyd Harris, is still battling to make a breakthrough back to the top bracket after a succession of disconcerting injuries over the past two years.

And, after a first round loss in the recent Australian Open against the formidable, 10th world ranked Matteo Berrettini, South Africa's two-time grand slam finalist has returned to his home base in the United States, with the intention of honing his game for the Mexican Open that starts in scenic Acapulco on 15 March when his modest ranking will again leave him without a seeding and the disconcerting possibility of coming up against one of the world's top players as early as the first round.
