Hiking is fun as you start your day with fresh air and great views, while being surrounded by nature. These are our favourite.

Rietfontein Nature Reserve, Paulshof

We did a 3KM walk, which was fun and serene. It’s very safe and secure. We really felt the heat because we arrived late. We didn’t know that it’s better to arrive as early as you can.

Melville Koppies - East, Melville

This trial has nice steep inclines; we did a good 5KMs and saw beautiful views of Joburg. It’s better to go as a group because safety isn’t 100% guaranteed. We had a few moments of doubt but nothing happened.

The Wilds Municipal Nature Reserve, Houghton

It is beautiful! This was my favourite trail.  The inclines are challenging but you forget everything as the views are breathtaking. There is security at the gate. We didn’t cover the whole trail so we’re planning on going back.

Delta Park, Randburg

It’s mostly flat because it’s also used as a Park Run venue, but there is a lot of ground to cover. We couldn’t believe that we covered close to 7KMs that morning. It has lovely woodlands and dams.

Just a side note: if you’re scared of dogs then hiking and walking on the trails will be a horrible experience for you as there are many people who bring their four-legged friends.
