After breaking a sweat after a couple of kilometer jogs you might get back and want to get your hands on anything in the kitchen. Well there could be reasons why you get hungry after a run and we break them down for you.

Feeling famished after your run, these could be the reasons:

Calorie burn

Well if you’re really going hard then you burning some serious calories. If you training for a marathon or something you defiantly putting in the work which means more calories.

"Running is a pretty vigorous form of exercise, you may be burning significantly more calories on a 45-minute run than if you're walking or on a stationary bike or elliptical machine at the gym." explains Lauren Antonucci, RD, sports dietitian. This means you need to refuel.

You’re not eating enough

If you running and trying to lose weight then maybe your diet could be the reason you hungry after your run. If you are not eating enough you bound to feel hungry after exercise,   “those restricting calories are already in a deficit, so added caloric burn from the run can be further stimulating appetite," she says.

You’re dehydrated

It can actually be that simple. You might think you hungry bit your body just needs water to hydrate. So make sure to drink up after a run.

Your runner hunger is relative

Not all exercise affect your appetite the same. Some exercising won’t leave you famished like running would. It goes back to the calorie burn.

Your hunger could be psychological than physical

It might be in your head to want to fuel up and eat after your run, maybe you not hungry just know that you should be eating something after “doing so well and exercising”. Go ahead and eat just make sure it’s a healthy meal so not to be counteractive.
