Popular vlogger Mihlali Ndamase shares her top tips to growing and healthy and thriving mane.
- Protective hairstyle
About 99% of the time my hair is kept in a protective hairstyle such as cornrows and amagoda, which is similar to a bantu knot but in the form of a braid.
- Deep condition regularly
I love deep conditioning my hair because it leaves it feeling smooth and soft. My favourite products for deep conditioning my hair are TRESemme Keratin smooth hair mask and ORS hair mayonnaise intensive conditioner. To wash and condition my hair on a weekly basis I used to use the Keratin smooth range from TRESemme now I am loving their new BOTANIQUE range for my fro, it smells divine and its very enriching for natural hair.
- Homemade Hot oil treatment
Regularly I like to perform a hot oil treatment on my hair to restore the moisture. The oils I love to use for this technique are castor oil, olive oil or Jamaican castor oil. I dampen my hair with water and apply the oil generously all over my scalp and hair (make sure that the oil is room temperature, if its winter you can heat up the oil for 10/20 seconds) wear a shower cap or plastic bag over your head, and leave that on overnight. Your hair will thank you when you rinse it out the following morning.
- Stay away from heat
I never use heat on my hair! I always let it air-dry unless I’m getting my hair done at the salon (which is basically never, in all honesty).
- Feed your hair
A healthy diet results in healthy hair. Drink lots of water, eat your greens and nuts and ypoultry. Protein will give you that full healthy hair you’re craving.
