The silly season is here, and it’s tempting to start dressing down while getting into the holiday mode. But, you still have to dress appropriately for work. Here’s how to stay chic, while keeping it professional this December.

Suyan Budhoo, career development social worker at Success Focus, says there are industries that still insist on formal wear throughout the year. “However more companies are dressing down to cultivate a casual work culture. The way we look plays an important role in success in the modern workplace. When you dress inappropriately, you don’t fit in and you’re not accepted and welcomed. At some point this could be detrimental to your career,” says Budhoo. Here are some tips on how to avoid making a fashion faux pas at work: DON’TS Screen Shot 2016-11-04 at 3.34.04 PM * No flip-flops to work * Sheer, or slightly transparent dresses or shirts, and the pretty bra you wear with it. * Hot pants are never appropriate at the office. * No off-the-shoulder tops or dresses to work. If it needs strapless bra chances are it should not be worn at work. * No bare back anything, whether it be tops or dresses. * No cut-out denim.
