Don’t let the festive season get you down

Holiday movies portray the festive season as fun, family time; relaxing moments and joyous occasions. However, the reality is that these movies seem to forget shopping mall mayhem, the detailed planning and preparation for when the family comes over, and those relaxing moments don’t seem to occur.

“The holidays are a time when our bodies and minds are supposed to be relaxing and enjoying the break from work and school, however this time of the year always brings pressure and stress,” says Su-Marie Annandale, Vinolia brand manager. “Making time for you and learning how to calm yourself when things get too hectic is just as important as the perfect family lunch.”

Annandale provides tips on how to enjoy the festive season without the stress:

Yes, we do this all the time, but simply taking yourself out of a stressful situation, closing your eyes and taking three deep, slow breaths allows your body to reset itself and bring you back to a calm state.

Plan ahead

Unexpected incidents do occur, but for those occasions you can plan for make sure that you have everything you need in advance and that any preparation that can be done before hand is done, giving you enough time on the day to enjoy yourself.

In the most stressful circumstances smiling seems like the most unlikely thing to do, however, it has been found that smiling can help lower your heart rate and help you destress – plus it’s contagious so everyone around you will be grinning as well.

Find a moment for yourself

One of the best ways to destress and simply melt away any tension is to enjoy a relaxing bath. Vinolia’s range of foam baths, soap bars and handwashes give you the chance to enjoy (finally) your moment, plus scents such as Vanilla and Lavender are known to help relax and soothe, and are favourites in the luxurious Vinolia range.

Play your jam

Choose a song that you love – something light and happy – and dance away your stress. Moving around and getting some exercise helps you to clear your mind, and who can resist the urge to take a break and live it up for a couple of minutes?
