PROBLEM: The tricky part about our complexions is that many of us are not blessed with one skin tone on our faces thus making it even more difficult to pick a foundation. The common issue is we are lighter in the centre of our faces as opposed the edges such as the hairline and below the cheekbones.

SOLUTION: "As a make-up artist working on dark skins, I often find myself having to mix two foundation colours to combat this common problem. The tip I give to most of my clients is to buy the lighter shade and ask for samples of the darker shade as you don’t use it as often” says Faith Seuoe, freelance make-up artist.

For oily skin: As much as the dewy finish is in vogue not everyone’s skin allows for this sheer finish coverage. Women that have a little more to hide than others need a formula that gives an opaque effect without a cakey finish.

EDITOR’S TIP: I never start a face beat without the correct foundation, I believe in applying a primer before you wear your foundation. This will help you save on product and give your foundation more wear throughout the day.

For normal skin: If oily skin is not your biggest concern and you just want to have a flawless finish that still leaves you looking natural then you are spoilt for choice. You can go for sheer to medium coverage formulas that are buildable for the days you do want more coverage.
